We prefer to allow convincing facts to speak for themselves.

Cofely Refrigeration GmbH stands for extraordinary expertise involving economic and energy-efficient industrial refrigeration systems and refrigeration components -- and has been doing so for decades. The company's roots go back to the company founded in 1834 in Winterthur by the Sulzer brothers, which built the first refrigerating machine in 1878 on the occasion of the world exhibition in Paris. This innovative strength has continued up to the present day and will continue to be decisively driven on.

History

Even if the name of our firm has changed over the last two centuries, the tradition behind it in the development and production of efficient refrigeration machines and systems has continued without interruption. The roots of our expertise extend back to the year 1834, when the Sulzer brothers founded their foundry in Winterthur, Switzerland, setting the foundation stone for an international company group. Since 1921, refrigeration machines have been produced in series at our headquarters in Lindau and that is where the future of refrigeration technology has started again and again – here are the most important milestones.

1878
Construction of the first refrigerator by Sulzer for the Paris World's Fair

1921
Takeover by Escher Wyss Werke Zürich. Start of the series production of refrigerators

1938
Commissioning of the first heat pump. Development of the first cooling towers by Escher Wyss

1972
Legal independence of Sulzer Escher Wyss GmbH

1998
Development of the world’s first artificial ice rink in Dornbirn with CO2 as refrigerant

2001
The Belgian concern Groupe Fabricom takes over Sulzer Escher Wyss GmbH and continues to operate the firm as Axima Refrigeration GmbH.

2003
Revolutionary refrigeration machine QUANTUM with oil-free turbo compressor for building services and industry reaches the marketing stage.

2004
25,000 Escher Wyss cooling towers are in use worldwide.

2005
The SUEZ Group decides to introduce national organisations. In the course of this process, the German companies Axima GmbH, Axima Refrigeration GmbH and Elyo GmbH are merged to form SUEZ Energy Services Germany GmbH.

2006
Axima Refrigeration successfully launches the second generation of the Quantum cold water chillers on the market.

2008
At Chillventa in Nuremberg, Axima Refrigeration announces the joint development of the water turbo (AquaQuantum) with the Institute for Ventilation and Refrigeration Technology (ILK) in Dresden.

2009
From the beginning of 2009, in the course of a brand harmonisation, the GDF SUEZ Group bundles numerous activities of its Energy Services Division under the new brand name Cofely. The Axima companies in Germany also adopt the new brand name and operate in the market from mid-November 2009 as Cofely Deutschland GmbH and Cofely Refrigeration GmbH.
