Our solutions for wind tunnels: Always the right weather.

Before vehicle systems and components are allowed on the roads, they have to withstand some of the most appalling weather conditions in the world. In the climatic wind tunnel, a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels and extreme weather conditions such as driving rain, snow and ice are simulated. In order to ensure comparability, the situations not only have to be realistic, but, most importantly, they have to be exactly reproducible.

The technology from Cofely Refrigeration provides for flexible and exactly variable climatic conditions in many wind tunnels: The weather in Europe’s largest climatic wind tunnel in Vienna, for example, is made by Cofely Refrigeration – not only Formula 1 cars are tested here, but even railway trains. Refrigeration systems with over 5 MW cooling performance regulate the air temperatures in the wind tunnel and remove the waste heat from the blower. Where low temperatures are concerned, as a leading supplier of environmentally friendly systems, we are also a partner in this field – with combinations of the refrigerants carbon dioxide and ammonia.
